Snowdecahedrons in Dewey Square

TrueNE_79 spottted these snowdecahedrons in Dewey Square this morning.

Could they be the work of Dan Sternof Beyer, who sculpted the forms in Porter Square and elsewhere back in 2011? Well, Beyer is a member of New American Art, a collaborative interested in "beautiful, interactive public art," and just take a look at what they posted yesterday on their Tumblr site.

Good thing Boston has more than one paramedic unit: Boston EMS Incidents reports that when a report of a person suffering a heart attack in the Prudential Center food court came in around 10:30 p.m., the Paramedic 1 unit stationed on Purchase Street was dispatched to the scene - but couldn't even get out of its bay due to the large traffic jam caused by protesters in Dewey Square and police blocking traffic to keep motorists from plowing into the protesters.

Dispatchers then routed Paramedic 2, based on Warren Street in Roxbury, to the mall, where firefighters and EMTs were treating the unconscious but still breathing person until the paramedics could arrive.

A Ferguson protest in Dudley Square turned into a march of people that kept getting thwarted by Boston and State Police to shut one of the highways running through Boston.

The action started at the Southeast Expressway southbound at the Mass. Ave. connector, where protesters were mostly blocked - although they shut down the connector, police kept them off the Expressway.

Summer Street in Boston in the snow and cold

State officials urged people to stay home this morning, and it seems like a lot of people heeded that.

Paul Villanova put on his warm clothes this morning to take photos of an empty Summer Street in Fort Point (above) and an equally empty and windswept Dewey Square:

Our own Swirlygrrl reports workers took down the Dewey Square mural by Os Gemeos and began putting up its replacement - some black and white seascapey thing.

Some cranky citizen took a picture of the giant mural in Dewey Square, you know, the one of the kid with the shirt wrapped around his head and filed a complaint with the city:

Terrorist mural on the front of the building across from the Federal Building. This is a disgrace and should be removed or painted over immediately. With marathon events last month, this is extremely offensive!!!

An off-duty air marshal who hit an Occupy Boston organizer and grabbed her camera an hour before police shut down its Dewey Square encampment last December, was sentenced to 18 months' probation and ordered to undergo drug and alcohol treatment and take anger-management classes, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

El Planeta does some person-in-the-street interviewing about that mural, finds some folks willing to wrap T-shirts around their heads to express their support (article is in Spanish, starts with a review of the mural and the controversy).

Natasha Vianna, who is Brazilian-American, says she was delighted to see a pair of Brazilian artists, Os Gemeos, come to Boston for a show at the ICA. She reports on meeting the two at a reception and feels compelled to address stupid people who think their mural on the Greenway is a terrorist plot to force Middle Eastern men on us or something:

Trying not to allow fumes from escaping my ears, I explained that this was inaccurate. Their characters usually have no race and like most art, it's up to you to see what you want to see. The skin of the characters are yellow because it is how they envision these characters in their dreams. Specifically in the Boston mural, the man's face is covered because it is a representation of how most street artists do their work, by covering their faces with an old shirt as to not inhale the fumes. ... In the '80s, the two identical brothers started as graffiti artists after embracing the New York culture of Hip Hop and street art. And without much money or the resources to even create street art, they used household and car paint for most of their creations.

Two Brazilian artists are transforming the plain brown side of that thing in the middle of the Greenway in Dewey Square into a mural - which will stay up until it gets to faded and ugly in the weather to stay up any longer.

Adam Gendreau, co-owner and co-operator of the Staff Meal food truck, has penned an open letter to city officials about Boston's nascent food-truck efforts:

Despite the media portrayal that the food truck industry in Boston is thriving, the reality is that the city hasn’t implemented a system that will allow food trucks to succeed.
