A city health inspector today suspended the permit for Red Mango, 334 Mass. Ave., due to violations that included: No hot water, a blocked off hand-washing sink, too warm cut strawberries in a toppings bar, a "black mold like substance" on the interior of an ice machine, live cockroaches inside cabinets and small black flies in the basement.

The manager can apply for a re-inspection once he or she has corrected the problems.

Looks like the former Parlour Pizza is getting divided into two separate places: A new pizza place called Mangia Neopolitan Pizza and a froyo place called Yogoteria.

The Boston Licensing Board considers a food-serving license for both at 1727 Centre St. at a hearing next week. If approved, West Roxburyans with a yen for froyo won't have to make the trek to the new froyo place opening in Roslindale Square.

Both Mangia and Yogoteria would be open until midnight if the board grants its OK.

The Boston Licensing Board next week considers a license request from somebody who wants to open a froyo place in the old Social Security office on Washington Street.

Delicious YoGurt, LLC (yep) needs a food-serving license to open an eponymous shop at 4198-4206 Washington, just south of the RMV. Its proposed hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This would be Roslindale Square's second froyo purveyor - Jimmies on Corinth also offers several types of frozen yogurt in addition to ice cream.

Somebody's a bit upset that the Davis Square Pinkberry advertises "handcrafted" yogurt:

To get a better sense of what’s so, so wrong about this, try googling "handcrafted" and see what comes up in the search results: jewelry, pottery and furniture - all things you craft by hand rather than, you know, dump into a cup or bowl and declare your work at an end.
