Shuttle buses instead of the Green Line on Commonwealth Avenue

Who's the wise guy? The T is running buses instead of trolleys along Comm. Ave. due to "a track issue" at Warren Street.

Oh, and, of course, the runners beat the Green Line between BC and Blandford - before the track issue came up.

Dead tree on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton

A concerned citizen notes a newly dead tree in front of 1712 Comm. Ave.:

Someone seems to have sawed down one of the small trees along Comm Ave on the inbound side.

Ed. note: Could it be the ninja tree killer? In the past, he's tened to stay within the confines of Brighton Center.

John Rogaris was released on personal recognizance today at his arraignment on charges of witness tampering and interfering with a police investigation into how a man wound up lying behind his Roggie's Bar and Grille on Chestnut Hill Avenue early on May 23.

Assistant Suffolk County District Attorney David Bradley said Rogaris's four-count indictment stems from an incident at closing that day, when a worker going downstairs to use the restroom found an underage man unconscious on the stairs - and from Rogaris's alleged efforts that night and in the two weeks following to keep police from finding out what happened:

They started the Esplanade fireworks a bit early tonight - just in time for them to end and evacuate the area as a storm plowed across the area, knocking out power in at least part of Waltham and Cambridge and sending skittish dogs and children under beds.

Christopher reports:

Have to give Boston Pops organizers credit on timing. Made it from the esplanade lagoon to Kenmore JUST as the rain started.

A Suffolk County grand jury today indicted John Rogaris, 44, owner of Roggie's on Chestnut Hill Avenue, on charges he interfered with an investigation into the discovery of an unconscious man with a life-threatening head injury found behind Roggie's in May, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and Boston Police report.

Rogaris is scheduled to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on Wednesday on charges of destruction of evidence, witness intimidation and misleading police, who say he failed to help them figure out the appearance of an unconscious man around 2:40 a.m. on May 23, the DA's office says.

Towering hawks

Joe Giza at WBZ posted this photo of a pair of hawks atop the old Channel 38 tower on Leo F. Birmingham Parkway in Brighton this evening.

CBS, which still uses the WSBK building as studios for some of its Boston radio stations, has a camera up there, he reports, adding that until tonight, just one hawk had been showing up there regularly.

The BRA decided tonight to solicit bids from groups that might have ideas on how to use $3 million in money from Harvard for increasing owner occupancy rates in Allston houses.

BRA staffers say trends show growing percentages of houses in the North Allston and the neighboring section of Brighton being bought up by investors, who might not have the same neighborhood interests as people who actually live in the area.

Proposed Cleveland Circle project

The BRA gave its approval today to an $85-million project to replace the old Circle Cinema complex and the Applebee's in Cleveland Circle with a 162-room hotel and 92 units of mostly luxury housing.

The Boston Development Group has worked with - and often battled - residents for more than three years. Brookline has created a hotel "overlay" zone for the part of the project that would sit in that town.

The venerable Brighton bar is getting new owners, who plan to rename it the Kitchen Sink and completely gut the place to make it more like their Local 149 in South Boston.

The Neighborhood Restaurant Group, which also owns the Biltmore Bar and Grille in Newton, is paying $400,000 for the Boyne's building and liquor license, but plans a complete interior renovation and a new "eclectic" menu, officials told the Boston Licensing Board this morning.

Somehow, we missed the editor's note on boston.com's scoop last week about the guy sneaking into the homes of BC students and tickling them while they sleep:

On Wednesday, May 28, the Boston Police Department stated that they have identified only one incident in the last two years where a foot was touched and that they know of no police reports that refer to any actions that can be described as tickling.
