The Walgreens on Hyde Park Avenue in Hyde Park, across from the Blake Estates senior-citizen apartments, is closing its doors forever on Nov. 9, according to the Hyde Park group on Facebook.

Fortunately for Blake Estates residents and other nearby carless folks, the Shaw's on the other side of a parking lot from the Walgreens, has a pharmacy.

Stabbing suspect

Boston Police is seeking help to find two suspects for a stabbing at the Nubian Square Walgreens, 2275 Washington St. The victim survived.

Wanted man and type of SUV he carjacked

Boston Police have released images of the man they say carjacked an Acura SUV outside the Walgreens at 2275 Washington St. around 2:45 p.m. on July 4. Read more.

Boston Police report that after a Dorchester 16-year-old gets out of the hospital, he'll be formally charged with a variety of gun offenses for a fight at the Morton Street Walgreens in which he managed to shoot both his opponent and himself Friday night. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board votes tomorrow whether to let the impending Walgreens at School and Washington streets sell sushi and "locally sourced" bakery items, smoothies and coffee around the clock.

The ultra-luxe drug store is also seeking permission for a 42-seat patio overlooking the Irish Famine Memorial, but store attorney Joseph Hanley told the board this morning the chain would shut the patio at 11 p.m., in part to discourage early morning loitering. The chain's initial license request seemed to indicate a desire for a 24-hour patio.

Walgreens goes before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday for permission to sell booze in the old Downtown Crossing Borders it's currently turning into a mega-drugstore.

The chain has applied for an "all alcohol" license which, if granted, would let it sell everything from beer and wine to gin and vodka. Walgreens has proposed turning 1,500 square feet of the store's mezzanine into a "liquor sale area."

The Globe reports Walgreens is turning the former bookstore into an "emporium" with "a European boutique feel" that goes way beyond traditional pharmacy offerings to include everything from a sushi bar to a hair salon.
