Boston firefighters are at 43 Kerwin St. for a fire reported on the third floor shortly before 9:45 p.m. Residents were rescued from the third floor; one was injured seriously enough to be taken to a local hospital. The bulk of the fire was knocked down around 9:55 p.m.
Live Boston reports a person died after a pickup crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed on Talbot Avenue at Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. WBZ reports the impact split the pickup in half.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., a man in an SUV was shot on Kingsdale Street, off Wales Street. He managed to drive down Wales and then turned onto Talbot and drove to Blue Hill Avenue, where he crashed and EMTs found him. Read more.
A group of black and Latino Dorchester and Roxbury resident today blasted city and state officials for doing nothing to stop hundreds of people from across the Northeast congregating for a Carnival party along Talbot Avenue last weekend and said they will do what they have to to stop a similar gathering planned for this weekend. The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that Suffolk County prosecutors cannot use a loaded gun allegedly found on a Dorchester man as evidence against him, because police found it under his puffy coat and sweatshirt during what it ruled was an unconstitutional pat frisk. Read more.
