When it comes to food, Allston has a lot more to offer than delicious and affordable hole-in-the-wall restaurants. There are several locally-owned markets that offer a chance to explore diverse cultures through food. Also, supporting local businesses and forming relationships with the store owners can bring communities together through food.

Richard Auffrey reports he had to make several visits to Arlington Avenue in Charlestown to try dishes at the Peruvian Taste Restaurant, because the food was just that good. They serve both traditional Peruvian food and chifa, a mix of Chinese and Peruvian cuisines.

Richard Auffrey recounts his recent brunch at Tambo 22, a new Peruvian restaurant in Chelsea whose menu includes the tamburgeusa - basically a cheeseburger made with alpaca and short-rib meat.

It resembled the look of a beef burger but the taste was certainly different, with a more gamey and meaty element, similar in some respects to ground lamb.

Boston Restaurant Talk alerts us to the opening of Machu Chifa, which specializes in chifa, "Cantonese-Peruvian style fried rice bowls that can be ordered with steak, pork, shrimp, or chicken."
