Banana Republic jacket

Hamel was in Bussey Brook Meadow (the "wild" part of the Arboretum across Washington Street from the Forest Hills T stop) yesterday, picking up trash for Earth Day, but lost her Banana Republic denim jacket (which looks like the one above). If anybody spots it, let us know.

Coyote up a hill in the Roslindale part of the Arboretum

Yesterday, roving UHub photographer Dan Peters spied this comfy coyote up a hill at the part of the Arnold Arboretum in Roslindale that's across Walter Street from the main part of the Arbs, where the solar panels are.

Morning eclipse, with jet

Adam Balsam was among the many people who got up early to get a good view of the eclipse, which in his case meant a trip to Wollaston Beach. At first, it was disappointing, because clouds obscured the show as the sun broke above the horizon, but once the sun rose high enough, the show was on. Read more.

Orange sunrise over Peters Hill in the Arnold Arboretum and downtown Boston

Paul Friedmann watched the dawn of another hot day from the top of Peters Hill in the Arnold Arboretum.

The National Weather Service forecasts Wednesday will be as bad as today, then a cool front comes in and lowers both the temperature and the humidity for Thursday.

Advancing coyote in the Arboretum

Grace Holley posed a question yesterday:

You’re on a snow walk in the Arboretum w your pup and you turn the corner and see this 15-20 ft away and it starts walking toward you...what do you do?

Meanwhile, Blvckmachina recorded about seven coyotes in his yard on Glenellen Road in West Roxbury around 4:50 a.m. on Sunday: Read more.

Sign warns of Covid-19 risk from sniffing lilacs

Gedalia couldn't help but notice signs at the Arnold Arboretum today warning of the dangers of what is normally one of the joys of living in Boston - stuffing your face in lilacs at the Arnold Arboretum in May. As with some many other pleasures, it's now too risky, except perhaps, downwind, from at least six feet away.

Parking at the Arboretum on Bussey Street

To try to reduce the number of people in the Arnold Arboretum at one time, the city and state put up sawhorses and signs along Bussey Street and the Arborway to ban parking. Several concerned citizens filed 311 complaints today (like this one) that people have simply moved the sawhorses so they can go for a walk.

Jamaica Plain News reports the Arnold Arboretum is asking people to stay away on May 10 because there's no way to maintain social distancing with the sorts of crowds that usually come that day to sniff the lilacs.

The Arboretum, which announced the Lilac Sunday cancellation a month ago, says the lilacs will be in bloom before and after May 10, so no reason to cram in on that one day.
