Via the Jamaica Plain Facebook group comes word that the long vacant Il Panino space across Centre Street from the Jackson Square T station now has a sign advising it will soon become an outlet of Viva Mi Arepa, which has long served up Venezuelan food at Grove and Washington streets in West Roxbury, but whose continued existence there is possibly threatened by plans for a new apartment building.

WCAI reporter Jeanette Barnes reports that one of the first people to meet the Venezuelans shipped from Texas by the governor of Florida after they were moved to Joint Base Cape Cod today was Katiuska Valiente. Valiente, is a native Venezuelan and former Univision Nuea Inglaterra anchor who co-owns Peka Restaurant in Brighton Center, which serves Venezuelan food - which she brought with her for the immigrants.
Centre Street near the Roche Center gets all the attention as a restaurant row, but the past couple of years have seen the rise of an interesting cluster of take-out restaurants along Washington Street between Grove and Birchwood streets.
