Before Suffolk Superior Court Judge Mitchell Kaplan imposed a mandatory life sentence on Timothy Kostka for murdering Barbara Coyne, 67, in her home on April 16, 2012, her family members had a chance to read victim-impact statements.

"I have never been more proud of my mother than I am right now, " her son, Richard, said. "She fought for her home, for her sleeping granddaughter, and for her life." Read more.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Timothy Kostka of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of Barbara Coyne, 67, on April 16, 2012, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The verdict means an automatic sentence of life without parole.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that Christopher Kostka can be ordered to provide a DNA sample that could rule him out as a possible suspect in the 2012 stabbing murder of Barbara Coyne - but bolster the case against his twin brother, Timothy.

Timothy Kostka, 26, of South Boston, will be arraigned tomorrow on charges of home invasion and murder for the death of Barbara Coyne in her E. 7 St. apartment on April 16, Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reported today.

Kostka lives off E. 3 St., about five blocks from Coyne's apartment.

Autopsy results state that the victim's cause of death is sharp force injury and manner of death is homicide.

Boston Police report a 67-year-old woman was found with a stab wound around 10 a.m. at 737 E. 7 St.
