Like most of us, Natalia remembers when Filene's was replaced with the Filene's Memorial Hole. When it started getting filled in with a building, she started taking pictures of Millennium Tower getting built.

Since I worked in downtown and generally carried my camera with me everywhere I went, I decided to start documenting the progress of the tower.

The Boston Business Journal reports on John Grayken's latest acquisition (subscription required to read full article). Graykin, who grew up on the mean streets of Cohasset (and now owns an entire island off its coast), but who renounced his US citizenship to become Irish, is head of Lone Star Funds.

David Bates reports a number of residents at Millennium Place have put their condos up for sale so they can move into the even swankier Millennium Tower down the street.

Erica Mattison looked up this afternoon (about 45 minutes before somebody in the South End was nearly blinded by the setting sun reflecting off the other side of the tower).

The Boston Business Journal reports the 13,000 square feet at the top of Millennium Tower are under agreement. Although the name of the buyer is, of course, under wraps, the Journal reports he or she is local and that they intend to use the space as a "family residence." Also no word if their kids will attend a BPS school.

The Boston Licensing Board today gave Roche Bros. a packie license for its new Downtown Crossing store.

At a hearing yesterday, Roche Bros. President Gary Pfeil told the board that the chain held a number of focus groups with current downtown residents and workers and discovered that people enjoying life in the heart of the city have a different way of entertaining guests: They're more likely to have parties with cocktails and appetizers than sit-down dinners. Shopper's Park Orange Line entrance removed in Downtown Crossing

Tim Lawrence watched the destruction of the Shopper's Park entrance to Downtown Crossing station this morning.

Shopper's Park was a small tree-lined area next to the headhouse, created by Filene's and then torn down when some New York developer demolished the main part of the Filene's building to create a giant hole.

Millennium Tower

The new Millennium Tower building where Filene's used to be in Downtown Crossing already seems to be the tallest building downtown - and will get taller still. And, at least until it gets closer to completion, the construction lights make it the brightest building downtown.

Daytime view from the ground.

The other night, a roving UHub photographer managed to rove himself right up to the current top of the Millennium Tower under construction where Filene's used to be and shares some of the views from up there - in a building where at least one top-level condo is being marketed at $37 million.
