Boston Police responding to reports of gunfire around 5:15 p.m. found three shell casings at the intersection of Hyde Park Avenue and Dana Avenue, possibly after two guys got into an argument.

The owner of 3 Dana Ave. in Hyde Park yesterday sued the Zoning Board of Appeal for approving variances for a 27-unit apartment building next door, saying there's nothing odd enough about the lot to warrant overruling its zoning and that the owner has done a terrible job with landscaping another apartment building he put up on the other side of the lot. The State House News Service reports the federal EPA yesterday formally proposed making the Neponset River, from Dana Avenue in Hyde Park to Dorchester Lower Mills a designated Superfund hazardous-waste and cleanup site due to the large volume of PCBs in river silt and the difficulties of trying to recoup costs from dozens of sites responsible for the contamination on one of the nation's oldest industrial waterways.

City officials and local historians and residents gathered at the former Dana Avenue Bridge in Hyde Park this morning to officially rename it as the Grimke Sisters Bridge in honor of two 19th-century sisters who fought for both the abolition of slavery and for women's rights to vote - and who on March 7, 1870 led a march of women to Hyde Park Town Hall to vote in the town elections, the first time women voted in the US - although the town then discarded their ballots. A worker became pinned around 10:45 a.m. at Dana Avenue, where crews are working to replace the bridge over the Fairmount Line train tracks. EMTs quickly responded - they have a station right at the bridge. First responders quickly got the man out and he was transported to a local trauma center. Police froze the scene until OSHA could arrive.

A developer has proposed turning a vacant lot on Dana Avenue, next to the still uncompleted building where the Eagles club used to be and less than 250 feet from a commuter-rail stop, into a 24-unit residential building called the Residences at Hyde Park Station. Read more.

The Board of Appeal today approved plans to replace a three-family house at 7 Dana Ave. with a townhouse project of 12, two-bedroom units, one set aside as affordable.

The board unanimously approved the proposal, although board Chairwoman Christine Araujo asked for some plantings to screen what she said would otherwise look like "a very suburban, motel-looking structure."

The state has posted deer-crossing signs in Stony Brook Reservation and on Truman Parkway inbound just past Neponset Valley Parkway.
