Students at the Curtis Guild School on Leyden Street, the Bradley School on Beachview Road and Excel Academy on Bremen Street and Moore Street kept their students inside as police searched for a man with a rifle that a passerby had alerted an officer he'd seen on Leyden near the Guild around 2:25 p.m. Read more.

Cohasset Police announced today they will charge a 16-year-old basketball play at Excel High School in South Boston with misdemeanor assault and battery for an incident during a game in Cohasset on Wednesday.

Boston Police report arresting Jamari Searcy, 18, of South Boston, on Island View Place in the Harbor Point development in Dorchester this afternoon after first receiving a report he was at Excel High School in South Boston with the gun. Read more.

Officials locked down Excel High School in South Boston Friday afternoon as BPD officers battled with a 14-year-old student and her mother, both intent on finding the student they claim had earlier spit on the girl, the Suffolk Count District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

Boston Police report arresting a student at Excel High School, 95 G St. in South Boston, after school staff members doing "a routine security check" Friday morning found a gun in his backpack.

Upon its discovery, the student ran out of the school. Police say officers found him later in Dorchester and arrested him on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Herald reports 90% of the teachers at Excel High School and and Brighton High School will be let go as of March 1 - although they will be allowed to re-apply for their jobs - as BPS tries to right the schools, which have struggled with test scores.

South Boston has a parking problem. Excel High School on G Street thinks it has an answer: Let residents park in its lot overnight - for $1,200 a year.

Eileen Murphy posted a copy of the notice for the Aug. 5 meeting the school is holding on the proposal - in which 60 spaces would be set aside for evening and weekend parking by the winners of a parking lottery, who would be billed quarterly.
