An Energy Department helicopter is flying along the route of the Monday Marathon today. As they do every year a few days before the Boston Marathon route, the crew is recording background radiation levels so they have a baseline to compare to should the worst happen.

The Boston Athletic Association announced today it's called off the 2021 Boston Marathon on Patriots Day, but held out some hope it might be able to reschedule the race to sometime in the fall.

Mayor Walsh said today he is "hopeful" the Boston Marathon can still be run on its rescheduled date of Sept. 14, but acknowledged that a marathon planned for later that month in Berlin was canceled yesterday because of Covid-19 concerns. Read more.

The BBC reports that the Chinese Athletic Association (CAA) has banned three runners from competing in any future races after claiming they cheated during last Monday's Boston Marathon. One runner was accused of giving his/her bib to another runner while the two others allegedly used faked race results in order to qualify for this year's race. Read more.
