Blakemore Street Bridge

Blakemore Street last night. Camera made it look more lit up than it really is.

A group of residents living near the Blakemore Street Bridge, which connects Hyde Park Avenue with Brown Avenue and Florence Street over the Northeast Corridor train tracks have won a city grant to try to turn the darkened, rusty span into a more welcoming entrance to the Prospect Hill neighborhood. Serbian font designer Jovana Jocić has released a Cyrillic version of David Jonathan Ross's Roslindale font - yes, named for the Boston neighborhood.

Roslindale is home to a Russian Orthodox church (and neighboring Jamaica Plain has two Ukrainian churches).

Sullivan's Pharmacy on Corinth Street in Roslindale Square will be closed Monday morning so that employees can attend the burial of owner Gregory Laham, who transformed what had been a basic neighborhood drugstore into a supplier of specialized prescriptions and medical equipment able to stay open even as chains forced the shutdown of other independent pharmacies across the state. Two developers, including one that rebuilt and expanded the former Arsenal Mall in Watertown, say they will soon file plans for a six-story, 230-unit apartment building with 124 parking spaces along the Needham Line train tracks between Lochdale and Arboretum roads in Roslindale, near Forest Hills. The Zoning Board of Appeal yesterday approved plans to replace the shuttered 100% Delicias restaurant at Hyde Park Avenue and Canterbury Street in Roslindale with a four-story, 27-unit apartment building and a small ground-floor retail space. Read more.

A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that two law-enforcement officers who fatally shot a man in a Roslindale parking lot as he walked toward them with a large knife, taunting them, are protected from a lawsuit by the man's family because of "qualified immunity" - they were acting in the course of their job to protect themselves and bystanders and had no reason to believe they were doing anything wrong. Crash at intersection of Walter and Centre in Roslindale

Tom the roving UHub photographer couldn't help but stop to take in the crash at Walter and Centre streets in Roslindale around 12:40 p.m. - since the two cars were now occupying the space where he had hope to go to turn left. No injuries that he could tell.

Boston Police report arresting a 16-year-old yesterday on charges he he fired five shots at the intersection of Hyde Park Avenue and Blakemore Street in Roslindale on Tuesday - possibly while trying to shoot somebody whom he missed completely. Read more.
