Crows attack bald eagle

A communications tower off Rivermoor Street, near Millennium Park in West Roxbury, is a popular place for birds to perch and survey the nearby Charles River. The other day, though, a pair of crows decided to try to drive off a bald eagle sitting up there. And Mary Ellen was there to watch the dive bombing.

WBZ reports, doesn't say if the attack was near the line with Hyde Park, where residents have learned to deal with bloodthirsty terror turkeys, one of which went after a WBZ reporter.

Goslings take advantage of puddle

Michael Spicher spotted some geese littles taking advantage of a puddle near the Expressway and the narrow end of Fort Point Channel that splits the South End from South Boston today. Amy Deveau, who lives nearby, though, is not liking the scene:

this stresses me out. I helped escort a family of geese under 93 and stopped traffic in both directions and when we all made it to the other side I burst into tears. I hope these lil guys make it back to the channel.

Timber rattlesnake or eastern milk snake?

A little hard to see, but there's a snake near the center of the photo, which Greg Hunt took today at Powell Island, a part of the marshy area along the Charles in Needham, near the Newton line, just across from Millennium Park in West Roxbury. Rabbit on the Leverett Connector

Enoch Pratt reports this baby bunny was running up the Leverett Connector today when a woman stopped, jumped out and managed to scoop up the bun and get it off the highway.

The Princess Bride: TheROUSes (Rodents of Unusual Size)

Steve Holt alerts us that in a Charlestown Facebook group, an Albion Place resident reported spotting a capybara sauntering down his street. Capyrbaras are native to South America and are not known for inhabiting the Town.

It was quite a bizarre sighting. If anyone is looking for it, I thought I would post it here for visibility.

Goslings being corraled on I-93 southbound

State Police posted photos from a rescue mission in the HOV lane on the southbound Expressway in Dorchester, where a pair of geese and their new brood found themselves trapped today. State troopers and Boston animal-control officers managed to round up the wayward birds and get them to somewhere safer.
