Celtics go West

The Boston Celtics have signed Delonte West to a contract for the upcoming season. This will be interesting for a lot of reasons including the fact that Delonte used to be a Celtic.

West was traded as part of the deal that brought Ray Allen as part of the "Big Three" and has bounced around since then. He was last seen in Boston Garden losing with the Cleveland LeBrons during the 2010 NBA Playoffs. It's unknown whether he will make the starting day roster yet, but he is capable of playing both the 1 or 2 position which makes for some potentially interesting sets with Rajon Rondo, Nate Robinson, and Ray Allen.

It also looks like this move might be useful at getting into LeBron's head during the game.

But I would have rather had another shooter or two. Rondo, Robinson and West basically do the same type of thing (Robinson can shoot better than the other two.) Will there be room for these three?

Delonte can shoot (he can even dunk too). He's just had problems off-court that have interfered with his game and playing side-by-side with LeBron is a good way to shorten your stats quickly too.

Rondo and West would be probably the best backcourt in the game defensively. West and Allen could provide some great shooting as a two-some on offense.

As long as he stays away from Rondo's mom.

it sets you up for a height disadvantage if they want to isolate one of those guys in the post.

Don't get me wrong, I love West's game, but I think he may be too small to put in at the same time with Rondo and Allen at the same time. I loved Robinson at the end of last year too though so I'm rooting for him.

I always liked Delonte's game when he was here. He's a fine defensive player, an excellent shot blocker for a guard, a good shooter, can fill at the point when needed, and had shown a propensity for making clutch baskets near the end of games before he was sent to places where he was relegated to passing the ball off to someone else to make such shots. I'm very glad he's back.
