Unattended hot plate starts fire that burns eight people out of their Hyde Park homes

The Boston Fire Department reports an unattended hot plate on a kitchen counter sparked a two-alarm fire at 1904 River St. around 1 p.m. yesterday that caused an estimated $350,000 in damage and forced four adults and four children to find new accommodations.
