Firefighters, other unions team up to collect disaster-relief items for western Mass.

Sunday update: Organizers say they are particularly looking for: Water, blue tarps, flashlights, batteries, glow sticks, bungee cords and rope.

Firehouses across the state will start collecting essential supplies for distribution in areas hard hit by the tornadoes earlier this week.

Bring any donations to your local fire station, where they'll be packed up for distribution in Springfield and other communities, by June 9.

The drive is being organized by the Professional Firefighters Association of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Building Trades Council and Teamsters Local 25.

I have a load of used clothing I was going to donate to Good Will shortly. Are they interested in that stuff too?

From the PFFM Facebook page (which may only work if you're logged into Facebook):

The Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM) in Partnership with Teamsters Local 25 & Marty Walsh & the Boston Building Trades will be conducting a State-Wide Tornado Relief Drive starting on Sunday, June 5, 2011, through Thursday, June 9, 2011.

People who wish to make donations, are asked to bring new or lightly used clothes, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items and such to their nearest Fire House. Fire Fighters will be collecting the items, which will be picked-up and transported by the Teamsters to families in Western Massachusetts who were victims of the Tornados this past week.

A press conference is scheduled for 10AM on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Florian Hall in Dorchester, MA to notify the public about this event, and to answer any questions from the media.

"...will be picked-up and transported by the Teamsters..." I wouldn't donate any furs, etc.
