How do you forget the Stanley Cup?

JetBlue found a way. The Toronto Star reports that when Nathan Horton got off a JetBlue plane in Buffalo on his way to his hometown to show off the Cup, the Cup's designated guardian got off, too. But the Cup was nowhere to be found:

"They tried to locate it," said [the minder]. "It wasn't in Buffalo. They called Boston. They did find it. It was on the very next flight."

Can't they buy a seat for it?

When I brought a cello home from the Northwest, I was not allowed to check the instrument -- I had to buy a seat of its own. I was cool with that; after all Thomas the Cello has a name.

I would think the Cup (which of course also has a name) would have similar rules. If it has a designated keeper, shouldn't that keeper sit with Lord Stanley on the plane?

He would have bought a seat for it, but the keeper has USA Prime Credit instead of Discover...

ha! Does the cup guardian have to go for "retraining" if he loses it?

Seriously though, if they can pay for a guy specifically to guard the thing an extra ticket seems like no big deal.

Happens once or twice a year

I saw an interview a week or two ago with the guardian-of-the-cup who said that this kind of mix-up happens once or twice a year with the cup traveling on airplanes.
