Toto, I don't think we're on Newbury Street anymore

Softcoeur could hardly believe what was parked on Harvard Ave. in gritty Allston this evening.

That someone is actually driving that on our pot-holed, cracked, messed up city streets.

White Horse, Tavern, Wonderbar, etc.

Whats douchier, the bars or this comment? It's not like Great Scott, The Sil' or the Model are that awesome either once you take off your hips-tinted glasses. The only bar in the area that has any kind of redeeming value is Big City / Sunset with their beer selection, and I guess the Brighton Music Hall.

As for weird cars on Harvard Ave, I've stumbled on a Delorian TWICE, and then there's that weird truck the guy keeps modifying that's around too. I also love that the Lamborghini is parked in front of Cheap Chic of all places.

$20 for that car.

also, Deep Ellum is pretty solid.

Cheap chic is neither cheap, nor chic.

As for bars, I used to enjoy Our House, with its sprawling rooms, couches and table height bar. I also have to give Wonderbar the slightest bit of credit because they took over a goth/gay/vamp/weirdo night when they got kicked out of their space in Cambridge, which runs completely against the grain of their typical clientele. It was quite funny watching the dudebros reactions when one of them wandered downstairs to see what was going on.

Touchy, huh. My list was not exhaustive. Does that make you feel any better?

I was thinking of the ones most comparable to Back Bay.

At the time it was the only comment on the article, and that just screamed douche. Knee-jerk reaction to it, I usually agree with your snark.

...a sports bar and grill is a douche bar?

Well, that's a new one. Looks like Allstons reached critical Hipster mass.

Is there anyplace in greater Boston more hipsterish?

Every so often, I'll take the kidlet to Kelly's, and we always get a window seat so we can play Hipster or Not. And then when we're done, we walk over to this little Taiwanese Korean bakery on Brighton Ave. for some cookies, the end.

that sounds like a sad little life

Yeah, spending time with your kids is so lame.

My husband wooed me with mooncakes from that bakery. He says that place and Spike's hot dogs are the only things he misses about the neighborhood.

I love Yi Soon Bakery. However, they're Taiwanese, not Korean. (And yes, best moon cakes in town!)

I don't know why I thought it was Korean - the writing on the front is clearly Chinese.

but not with my kid, she's too young right now.

Hipster or homeless?

Although you can really only play it around Halloween or at a Con, I always enjoy "costume or lifestyle?"

Just walk by on a weekend night and check the number of dudebros.

Call it the Popped Collar Index.

Seemed pretty normal to me. No popped collars (BTW, pretty sure Hispters brought that back first); just lots of different people enjoying the games and atmosphere of a large pub.

Seems you gotta get out of the commune more, the vapors are turning you full Hispter.

The Hipsters I've met in NYC and Boston are really much more douchey than the popped collar brigade . Everything is dudebro or bad to them, except their own peculiar eccentricities that they've worked years on.

But they generally don't run around at 3am screaming "DUDE" and "BRO" at full volume in the street, or pumping loud dance music on their front porch.

Tavern On The Square, White Horse, Wonder Bar, The Tap and Common Ground are where popped-collared, baseball-hatted dudebros begin their metamorphosis into full-on State Street blue-shirted, Drakkar Dipped douchebags.

Much as Adam likes to play hipster or not at Kelly's, we used to play "Guess Who'll Be In The South End or Suburbs Next Year?" at the Allston Cafe. Blueshirts who couldn't find the Dunks would wander in every so often and act as uncomfortably as a balloon in a pin shop. They're just beards and tattoos, bro, they won't hurt you.

Sports bar doesn't always = douches, but it's amazing how often the former draws the latter. Totally with you, Chicken.

That's an Acura NSX, not a Lamborghini.

up

but upon furthur inspection it looks like it is not an NSX and a 1st gen Lamborghini Diablo. The NSX had narrower blinkers and only one side scoop

Either it's got one hell of a body kit / conversion, or it's a Diablo Roadster.

Papi's got one, but his is a Murcielago

actually, as the person who a) saw this thing, b) took this photo, and c) made this post, it was a lamborghini. just didn't feel like being even weirder and snapping it from any closer.
