Life in a dodecahedron

Bob Field, who lives in Jamaica Plain's only dodecahdral house, at 17 Cranston St., gives a talk tomorrow at the BPL Connolly branch on the unusual structure, built by two Scottish brothers in the 1870s. The talk starts at 10 a.m.

Radio Boston talked to Field and posted some interior photos.

I would love to see a dodecahedral house, Adam G! But we math teachers are doomed to disappointment. As Adam R's article states, this is merely a dodecagonal house, not a dodecahedral one. You can see the cool dodecahedron at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:POV-Ray-Dodecahe... and the not-so-cool dodecagon at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Regular_polygon_.... Alas.

Check out those photos. Putting throw pillows on a pair of old cast-iron steam radiators and pulling up a table? Not most people's idea of comfortable seating. That strange house might offer decorating problems for anyone, but these owners might find a rectangular space sufficiently challenging. I hope those pillows don't melt.

Read the caption. They were clearing the room for Passover when I visited.
