Sharrice Perkins, one of last night's Dorchester murder victims, was part of a state championship double-Dutch jump rope team in 2007.
Another one of the victims, Kristen "Kae" Lartey, had just graduated St. John's University in New York and was a writer.
The third victim, Marie Phillip, who died today, had a young daughter.

Thank you, Adam. I've heard
Thank you, Adam. I've heard it said that when someone dies, it's like a book closing. Those are three interesting stories. Now that we know something about each woman, we can imagine, a little, what the loss must be like.
An alternate version
When a close friend of mine died, somebody said to me "when somebody dies it's like a library burns down".
Thanks
Thank you, Adam. Three sentences that changed my morning.
how sad is it
that someone was lulled into a false sense of security by attending college in NYC? I'm told that you are safer there, statistically. So much for the Boston Miracle. (Bill Bratton isn't walking through that door.)
very sad
My dad was also the victim of a violent crime that left him paralyzed. A totally random street crime. I remember when I mentioned it to a professor at school, she asked me who did, I told her a group of young black men, and her response was 'I hope this doesn't mean you hate black people'. 100% true story. She NEVER asked about my dad, how my mom dealt with it, etc.
