MIT building evacuated for gas leak; smell overwhelms Kendall Square

MIT is reporting a gas leak at Building 48, Main and Albany streets this morning.

Globe just got something on line...

A gas leak has been reported at the corner of Main and Albany streets, in Cambridge’s Kendall Square area, and two MIT buildings have been evacuated, the university says on its emergency notification website.

Buildings 46 and 48 have been evacuated. MIT and Cambridge Fire Department units are at the scene, the university said in a posting at 9:20 a.m.

The all clear has been given for the gas leak at Main and Albany Streets. MIT Buildings 46 & 48 are being re-occupied and the area is safe for travel.

Update: MIT Buildings 46 & 48 are still evacuated due to the gas leak at Main and Albany Streets. Please continue to stay away from the area until further notice. Emergency response personnel from Cambridge Fire Department, MIT and N-Star remain on the scene.

Report of a gas leak at the corner of Main and Albany Streets. Building 46 (BCS) has been evacuated. Please stay away from the area. Cambridge Fire Department has been notified and are responding. MIT Emergency resources are aslo responding to the area. Further information will be posted here once it becomes available.
