State Police report that giant American flag that had been flying from the Zakim supports fell this morning, wrapping up a southbound car in its red, white and blueness, but causing no injuries or other crashes.
While we're at it. What's up with all the tattered American Flags around town. I know the one on the Tobin is replaced like yearly because its so tattered.
But I thought it was illegal (if my 8th grade "Flag Instruction" memory serves me correctly) to wave a tattered or torn flag.
The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
When a flag is so tattered that it no longer fits to serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning. The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA, National Sojourners, and other organizations regularly conduct dignified flag-burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14.
US Flag Code is not legally binding, but rather is a set of guidelines as to the respectful display of the flag. A flag that is dirty should be cleaned (many dry cleaners will actually do this for free), or retired, a flag that is worn & torn should be retired (or repaired, usually the case for larger flags that have tears in them).
they were poorly designed and/or installed, are necessary for the adequate functioning of the highway. Hanging an oversized American flag directly above live traffic lanes isn't.

Geez! Glad no one was hurt. I
Geez! Glad no one was hurt. I was just admiring that flag, fully stretched out by a SW wind, on July 4th as I passed under it heading north.
Progress
From falling concrete ceiling tiles, to light fixtures, to flags.
Except that the first two features, although
they were poorly designed and/or installed, are necessary for the adequate functioning of the highway. Hanging an oversized American flag directly above live traffic lanes isn't.
These colors don't run
They just help you run into a wall.
