Pickup driver slams into woman standing on Malden sidewalk, speeds away

Ken Murray reports the hit and run, during which a light pole was also hit, happened around 11:40 a.m. on Ferry Street:

I heard the crash, looked out the window and ran down. Saw the truck take off up Belmont St.

It's OK, he probably just didn't see her.

Several cars, both parked and driving, were struck. The woman was at a bus stop when she was hit, and signs were taken down along with a light pole. She was taken to MGH by ambulance.

Yikes. I was just walking my baby through this neighborhood yesterday and thinking about the general pedestrian unfriendliness of the area, but you don't expect to get hit while you're actually on the sidewalk. Hope she's okay.

A certain regularly will probably blame nonexisent curb extensions and the roadway not being wide enough for the asshole driver.

Of course, as his history of drunk driving did not include a bale of weed, he was free to kill - despite having no license and having been caught on further OUIs since his license was suspended: http://www.necn.com/10/17/13/Driver-arrested-after...

That's a shame. I'm sure *this* time the Commonwealth will keep him off the roads for sure! Honest injun!

Let's hope that comes to pass, and that the woman that he hit with his pick-up truck is okay and makes a full recovery. Imho, it's hard to believe that the pick-up truck driver who hit the woman standing on the sidewalk didn't see her. I don't buy it.
