Jack Williams to retire as daily anchor

WBZ reports Williams, who has been with the station for 39 years, will continue to serve as a substitute anchor and will continue his work on "Wednesday's Child."

End of an era. He is such a nice guy and his Wednesday's Child has made me tear up more than once. They stopped making anchor men like Jack Williams and replaced them with bobbleheads.

Any resemblance between Jack and a certain fictional San De-a-agan anchor are pure coincidence. Best of luck to a guy who was professional and funny at the same time.

I grew up watching Jack Williams. Growing up in Medford to a mother born in South Boston, I credit his flat, unaffected mid-western inflection with modifying my own regional patois to lose my broad 'A' phonic.
