A Smootful of snow, and the season's not even over

The 77.3 inches of snow the National Weather Service reports we've gotten so far equals 1.15 Smoots - although we're not sure if that includes an ear or not.

Oliver Smoot
After serving as a unit of measurement, and completing his education, Smoot joined the National Bureau of Standards and served with distinction for decades. He chaired the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and served as president of the International Standards Organization (ISO).
He was actually out of spec during his standardization career, having grown after his Freshman year.
