Losing everything in that Cambridge fire

WBUR interviews one of the 11 Cambridge Rindge and Latin School students burned out of their homes in last week's 10-alarm fire: He rushed out with his three-year-old sister without even putting shoes on, then went back inside twice to make sure everybody was out.

I just listened to the WBUR interview. Young people like Isaiah make it possible to believe that we may just be able to survive and prosper despite all the challenges we're faced with.

(Just a reminder - anyone who'd like to help the families and individuals directly impacted by the fire (over 125 people were displaced) can contribute to the Cambridge Mayor's Fire Relief Fund. This is direct assistance to the people affected. Contributors have already raised nearly $600k.

At least he lives in a place where people care and respond, and a functioning society and government can step in and help raise money, support him at school, etc.

Really sweet. I do a bunch of volunteer work with Citizen's Schools and Cathedral High and the kids there are really supportive of each other too.

This story is a nice change, as people are often much nicer than is usually reported ;)

I listened to his interview last night. I couldn't believe how nonchalant he was about describing going into a burning building to rescue his family and neighbors -- he went back in multiple times and saved several children! Hero, AP student, basketball player, responsible big brother. This kid is an amazing teenager.
