Citizen complaint of the day: The month-old bucket of dog poop on the corner

An aggrieved citizen files a 311 complaint about a bucket of dog poop that has been sitting at the corner of Dale and Sherrin streets for about a month now. It's starting to smell.

Sorry, dude. 311 is too busy picking up the human poop outside North Station and South Station.

Let the dog poop flaming begin!

Instead of complaining, just take a large trash bag dump the bucket in in and take it to the nearest dumpster for disposal.
Really, there are more important things to worry about.
Wear gloves and a mask over your nose and mouth if you have to.

I would think in a case like this the older it got the LESS it would smell.

I'm not advocating leaving dog poop around, but I remember when I was a kid in the 60s there would always be old dried up white dog poop on the sidewalk because there were no laws requiring picking it up back then. It didn't smell. White dog poop is a thing of the past now, presumably because the ingredients in dog food have changed.

When I do my running, I've been stopping by the corner. Specifically, I sit on the park bench a short distance away. Last night, I noticed the bucket and thought "say, that's new." I mean, a few weeks ago junior was sledding probably 30 feet from where the bucket was and, well, there was no bucket. While a bucket full of dog feces might seem annoying, and someone (it's on DCR property, by the way) should probably do something about it, it has not been there for "about a month."

That park is Sherrin Woods and I believe that is owned by. The City of Boston Parks Dept. I hope no one's going to
put it into catch basin as that goes to Brooks and it contimanates the Rivers as well..

The little playground and tennis court is owned by DCR. It would make sense for the city to own it, especially given that a) it's a tiny park and DCR tends to only own large ones, b) it's not really near any other DCR parks (well, Stony Brook, I guess) and c) Sherrin Woods is owned by the city, which is going to pour a lot of money into it. But I doubt that's going to happen.

"It's been there about a month" = 8 days

"He must've been going 90" = 74

"I was only there 30 seconds, how did I get a ticket" = How long does a vanilla double-soy no whip light steamed milk latte really take?

"Pothole that could swallow a volkswagon" = Maybe not swallow, but would damage the rim on a Honda Civic.

I ran again tonight, but this time I actually scoped out this trash can. Very importantly, this is an ordinary barrel used by households, not an official governmental barrel. When I was going there, I was pondering my memory of seeing this last night and thought "how the heck would it still be standing after the storm over the week-end." Thus, my theory.

My theory is that this barrel was in someone's yard last Friday but blew away. On Sunday, someone saw it by the park and put it upright. Dog owners, who cannot be that bad as they are carrying around bags of dog poop, saw the barrel and thought that this is a better alternative of literally carrying their dog's shit around with them, put it in the barrel. I will also note that there is other kinds of trash in the barrel, and it is overflowing.

The best thing the City could to would be to tell the people from Capitol to empty the can when they go by on Wednesday. I don't see that happening, so good luck to the neighbors.

Anyone missing a barrel?

City or state barrels are well-marked or obvious. A civilian trash receptacle may have blown down there, or possibly a well-meaning person placed it there as a trash mitigation effort to control trash in the area. "If you bring it, they will come" or paraphrase to that affect.

That said, Capitol does not pick up city properties with regular trash collection routes. Usually Parks & Rec has a truck that makes the rounds at city play areas.

I want to know how it survived the last couple of rain and snow storms if its been there for a month.

Either that dog is eating alot of fiber or it has turned white and is stiff as a rock.

I have same problem! But instead of a barrel the poop is in my flower bed - the snow melt exposrd ao much dog shit left in my yard that even i was surprised because its an ingoing problem.
Dog walkers please explain why dog owners leave bags if poop along walking paths? Di you expect someone else to pick it up?
I am constantly picking uo dog shit from ny property and even frim the storm drain where some ass leaves his/her bags of shit. What is the deal?

As a dog owner who walks daily. I agree with you 100%. Are people that stupid that they bag their dogs shit then throw the bag to the side? I mean, instead of just leaving shit that will decompose, now it's wrapped up in plastic.

It's the people, not the dog. I know what you mean about the melting snow and now you see just how much shit is in your yard. I clean my yard regularly (2 dogs), but the snow can screw up my routine. It amazes me how much these two can produce!

There is no excuse for dog owners to allow their pets to shit in your yard. Ok, if he has to go, fine. But, you pick it all up after!

Like everything, car drivers, cyclists and dog owners; a few give many a bad name and you have every right to be angry.

City should require all persons to submit a DNA test for their dogs when the dogs are licensed, that way when the human fails to pick up after their dog it can be discovered who the offending human is and prosecute them
