Four condos approved for lot behind Triple Eatery on Cummins Highway in Roslindale

The Board of Appeals yesterday approved a landowner's proposal to replace a house with two two-family units on a parcel behind the Triple Eatery on Cummins Highway, near Sycamore Street, in Roslindale.

Patrick Mahoney had originally proposed buildings with eight units but reduced the size after meetings with nearby residents.

The lot is currently connected to Florence Street by an eight-foot-wide driveway; Mahoney negotiated an easement with property owners along Cummins to construct a new driveway onto that road that would range from 22 to 15 feet wide.

Nobody spoke against the proposal.

So the date on that original article was February 2017 - over a year ago, a YEAR and he's not even built the damn things, just finally gotten approval and the go-ahead. Maybe having to pay carrying costs on a property for over a year before even getting approval is part of what's driving up housing costs around here ?

inb4 "well the developer should just take a profit cut to account for these expenses and make less money than he wants so that he can price reasonably" welcome to late stage capitalism folks, how's that principled stand working out for everybody getting priced out?

Um, can he knock down the Triple Eatery too and just build out to Cummins Hwy?

It's a different property owner.

I realize its a different property owner. My comment was more like, can't they please tear down the Triple Eatery too and replace it with condos because its an eye sore.

It’s a viable business that benefits the community.

Also, there might be remediation issues as it used to be a laundromat and dry cleaners. That’s right, that building wasn’t always a take away. It transitioned uses in the 90s. Gradually, in fact.
