I was Rosie Ruiz
When I woke up Sunday morning before 7, it was pouring rain and cold. I decided to forfeit my $52 registration fee and went back to bed.
A few hours later, I noticed that the rain had mostly stopped, so I rode to the Davis Square T station, took an Ashmont Red Line train to Shawmut, and rode to the Codman Square rest stop in Dorchester. Got there at 11:30, and rode the last 18 miles of the '50-mile' route to City Hall Plaza, arriving at 12:50. Crowds seemed sparse everywhere, but many riders had probably finished before I even joined in.
Hey, I'm there in the video.
Hey, I'm there in the video. At 0:34, even if nobody could ever tell it was me. Whooo!
Did the 50 mile, and it was a great ride. The rain was pretty light by the start, and totally gone by the first rest point. I got more soaked riding to HoW than in the actual ride itself. Definitely a smaller turnout than it would have been, but there were still a whole lot of us out there braving the weather and having fun.
Plus, this year I didn't crash out and end up getting much more intimate with Beth Israel, for a change...
