Two dogs Roxbury woman is charged with starving are doing much better and are ready for adoption, MSPCA says

The MSPCA reports that Jobee, a dog that was among the worst cases of intentional animal starvation the group says it has ever seen, and a second dog, Remy, who was also taken by the MSPCA, have recovered enough that they are now ready for adoption.

The two dogs were were recovered in July on Ernst Street in Roxbury. Their owner, Lakeida Burris, 36, currently faces animal-cruelty charges for her treatment of Jobee - starved to the point of death. Remy was also found severely malnourished, the group says.

Jobee, a 3-year-old pittie who is currently in foster care, is "now just a normal happy boy" and ready for adoption into a home where he would be the only pet, the MSPCA says.

Remy, who got less attention when he was recovered, is also available. A 4-year-old pit bull terrier mix, got less attention than the completely emaciated Jobee, but is also now ready for a forever home:

"Remy was underweight when she came to us, although not nearly as underweight as Jobee," explained MSPCA-Angell Director of Adoption Centers and Programs, Mike Keiley. "We use a scale of one to nine to evaluate dogs’ body fat, and Remy was only a two."

"But, we got her on a refeeding plan and treated some skin issues she also had, so she’s in a much better spot now."

Also:

She is looking for a home with adopters who will be patient as she gets to know her new space. She can live with children and potentially a well-matched dog.

You can read more about the two dogs - and apply to be considered for adopting them - at their linked names above.

To all the rescuers, fosterers, donors, volunteers and others who are there to help. Skilled fosterers in particular really do amazing things in socializing abused animals and making it possible for them to go on to happy lives.

Pitbull owners sure are often terrible people.

as a pit mix owner myself, i feel i have to work extra hard to be an ambassador for the breed -- and give my dog the training, socialization, and love to be her best self.

it's truly disgusting and gut-wrenching to see people treat any animals poorly. and the woman charged with these crimes is truly depraved.

i'll hug my dog extra tonight (no different from any other night though).

ps - and yes, i ALWAYS pick up her poop. for anyone in Hyde Park that needs a roll, stop by -i have a case of them. be a good neighbor and pick up after your dog.

Leave the dogs out of it.

Some dog owners are terrible people because there are terrible people in this world.

Now go back to reddit with your breed hating.

Let's not go about it that way. Making generalizations about breeds and/or the people who own them = no good

"A 4-year-old pit bull terrier mix..."

That phrase makes no sense. A "pit bull" is a bulldog-terrier mix, that's more or less the definition of the type. (Last I checked a few years ago, the AKC position was that there's no such official breed as a "pit bull", the nearest recognized breed being an American Staffordshire Terrier or "Amstaffie".)

Woof!

You're clearly the expert here, but this strikes me as like an ammosexuals' carping at others' use of the term "assault rifle" or the right-wing cry of "iTs A rEpUbLiC". In other words, yes, in some circles it's a point of sincere interest, but when the general public does not share that interest, it's pointless chiding them over terminology. Using a term whose meaning is a matter of consensus is more useful than using the "correct" term.
