Murder at the Metropolitan

Boston Police report a man was found stabbed to death this afternoon at the Metropolitan, a high-rise condo and apartment building next to New England Medical Center where units go for $600,000 and up.

Anthony Chambers, 51, of Boston, was arrested not long after and charged with killing the still unidentified white male in his mid-30s. The victim was found around 1:40 p.m. at the 1 Nassau St. complex and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is Boston's tenth murder of the year and possibly the first that has nothing to do with Dorchester (eight of the other murders happened in Dorchester; the ninth involved somebody returning from the funeral of one of the Dorchester murders).

cheer up Dorchester...

this one may not have anything to do with you - but I am sure that one of the next three Boston murders will...

All bets are off ...

Any bets on which stories will get more ink in the press over the coming days?

"Man stabbed in Chinatown ..."

"Man shot to death in Dorchester ..."

Oh, right, "this sort of thing just doesn't happen here, it's so unusual ...", "I'm going to watch my kids more closely," and, "I'll definitely think more about who I see in the hallways ..."

Idle chatter, resolving nothing, go along with your lives.

Meanwhile, a neighborhood suffers.

There was somebody shot to death in Dorchester?

This weekend?

But, yes, I agree it'll be interesting to see how much play this gets, both in general when compared to the Dorchester murders this year and in particular that other poor guy who got stabbed to death - in Dorchester. I'm surprised there's nothing on the local news sites at this point, but maybe they have all their weekend interns out covering the wacky snow, and, of course, that poor woman who got murdered in Medfield.

The blogger who lives in the building

Will Ng discusses the murder:

... This is a little too close to home, but this is probably the 3rd major incident that has occurred in the area since I've moved in. Is this a lot? Do I live in a bad neighborhood? I don't think so. The area is densely populated, so the number of crimes to the number of residence is rather small. ...

Guests of a tenant

The Suffolk County DA's office reports Chambers was homeless:

Evidence suggests that the stabbing following a verbal altercation that escalated to physical violence inside the apartment, where both men were staying as guests.

A Boston Municipal Court judge ordered Chambers held without bail; he pleaded not guilty at arraignment this morning.

Victim IDed

Edward Quiles, 28.
