Man in car shot in West Roxbury

Updated Thursday morning with additional information from BPD.

Around 11:30 p.m., somebody opened fire on a car on Spring Street near Baker that was heading towards Centre. The passenger, a man in his 30s, was hit.

The driver raced to Faulkner Hospital, from which the victim was transferred to a hospital with a trauma center. Boston Police report his injuries are not life-threatening.

Police do not have a suspect description.

And BPD's ShotSpotter doesn't cover West Roxbury. But witnesses told police that's where it happened, and E5 has taken over the investigation from E13.

you won't necessarily realize they are gunshots. They sound like small firecrackers or pops, not great big bangs like in action movies.

I'm not familiar with this area of West Roxbury, but if it's an area that doesn't see gunfire regularly and no one witnessed anything suspicious, it would be quite possible that people didn't realize they were hearing gunfire.
