14-year-old arrested with loaded gun at South Boston school, police say

Boston Police report arresting a teen they say went to class at Up Academy, 215 Dorchester St. in South Boston with a loaded gun in his backpack today.

Police say school staff "became aware that a student might be in possession of a firearm" around 2 p.m.

School staff took the student out of class, and recovered a firearm from his backpack. School staff contacted Boston Police to take custody of the firearm. The firearm was determined to be fully loaded.

The 14-year-old, too young to have his name released, was charged with being delinquent for illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of a firearm on school grounds, police say.

Until we have mandatory penalties for parents then none of this will ever change.

The kid will be back in a week and now has "cred" among his peers.

Bringing a gun to school has become a rite of passage. And since there are never any consequences, why the hell not?

what a world we live in when kids get 'cred' by bring killing machines to school.

I also question.. where did he get the gun? And will that person be held accountable for not having a weapon locked up. (cuz isn't that state law?!?)

I doubt it even had a serial number.

Did I say legal anywhere in my post? Nope.

they had to get it from somewhere........ guns just dont magically appear in a kids backpack, fully loaded.

But you were asking questions like the person he got it from was a licensed gun owner. There’s a zero percent chance of that.

Unless this is a home-made firearm somehow, someone in the chain of ownership here was a licensed gun owner and its fair to ask if they're being held accountable for how the gun got to this kid.

I think everyone in the chain should get the book thrown at them. ‘Losing’ a firearm, selling an illegal firearm, and possessing an illegal firearm should all be punished to the full extent of the law. Unfortunately, that almost never happens to any of the offenders.
