Somebody fired as many as 11 rounds shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday on Kingsdale Street near Wales Street in Dorchester. No injuries, but three cars were hit.

Angry note on door of Codman Square post office demanding to know why it's shut again

The Codman Square post office (02124) was closed yesterday and, as Welcome to Dot shows us, it's closed again today and people who just want to pick up their mail or send a letter are getting annoyed.

Third rail on fire in the rain

The MBTA shut power on the Red Line in both directions at JFK/UMass after a third rail caught fire just before the station around 4:20 p.m. Read more.

As the torrential rains pour down, Columbia Road has flooded at Hamilton (where the train tracks cross) and in the area of Devon Street.

The flooding there sent motorists down Quincy Street, where they promptly had to stop near Ceylon Street, because of flooding under the train tracks there. One motorist climbed out of his car and was standing on the roof of his car due to floodwaters that came about halfway up his car.

Boston Police report they are looking for Cristofanes Mendes, 33, on charges of kidnapping and auto theft for an incident in which he got into a couple's vehicle at Geneva Avenue and Leroy Street in Dorchester, drove off, then returned to drop off their 2-year-old son before speeding off again. Boston Police report a man was found stabbed at 6 Hartford St., in Dorchester around 12:05 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Read more.

A man faces a dangerousness hearing tomorrow on charges he reacted to a woman failing to say "good morning" to him by punching her seven times in the face and then trying to run her over with one of his Mercedes, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports - adding he was nabbed in part due to data from the GPS tracker he was wearing while on bail for an earlier assault. The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let D'Buly Chimis, 1151 Blue Hill Ave., near Morton Street, extend its closing hour from the current 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday through Sunday. Read more.

A federal judge this week sentenced Jarmori Brown, 21, to 18 months in federal prison for his role in a ring that purchased guns in Alabama, then rode with them on buses up to Boston, where they sold the weapons on the black market. Read more.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today upheld the second-degree murder convictions of three men for beating and stabbing a teenager to death at Blue Hill Avenue and Wilcock Street in 2007, rejecting arguments that a juror who answered "no" to questions about relatives involved in criminal cases or the court system meant the three couldn't get a fair trial. Freed from those pesky rules that keep federal officials from endorsing candidates, current NHL Players Association President Marty Walsh has made an endorsement for the District 3 (Dorchester) City Council seat Frank Baker is giving up, the Dorchester Reporter reports: John FitzGerald, whose father, Kevin, shared an office with Walsh when Walsh was first elected a state rep back in the day.

MassDOT reports there were "major delays" on the Expressway southbound this morning due to separate big-rig rollovers. One truck ended on its side, spilling fuel and forcing the shutdown of three lanes near Southampton Street, then another truck jackknifed near Savin Hill, forcing two lanes shut. The trucks and messes were cleared arond 10:30 a.m., MassDOT says.
