My husband is Boston born and bred; I'm from Seattle. I can put up with almost everything about his accent--but I cannot STAND it when he says "fudgicle"! ARGH!!! There is SO CLEARLY an "s." It's irrational, I know, but it drives me crazy.
Yeah, It is a fudgicle... I live in NY now (Mid-Hudson Valley) But I am from the Merrimack Valley and I still get bizzah looks when I ask for a frappe or a fudgicle at the ice cream stands... :-/ Sometimes I feel displaced LOL

Our family owned the first ice cream factory (1879) in Kansas. We have old signage which reads "fudgicle" and later signage which reads "fudgsicle". Sounds like the old timers knew what they were talking about.
I never knew it was just a boston thing too and when I heard someone say fudgeSicle on tv I thought it was supposed to be a joke so I lchuckled and noone knew why
I'm a North Carolina girl who has always pronounced it "fudgsicle". My boyfriend is from Vermont and says "fudgicle". We were grocery shopping this weekend and bought a box. The label clearly says "Fudgsicle". Now he is practicing the new pronounciation....with a southern drawl...hehe
Some linguist must have studied this, and I'd sure be curious to see the results. I grew up in Hawaii and for a long time I was the only person I knew who said "fudgicle", which I picked up from my dad, who's from Philly. I'd met a couple of people since moving away who also said it, all from Philly, so I assumed it was very localized. But, just recently, I started dating a guy from northern New Jersey, and (much to my delight) he says it too!My 2 cents: Fudgsicle is the brand; fudgicle is what the things are called, depending on geography :-)
I was just teasing my sister-n-law from Hamtramck, MI. She and her entire family say Fudgicle. So I decided to go on the internet and prove to her I was right, however I have found that she is not the only one. Sorry Leanne.It is really Fudgsicle, but I will let her slide now.
I have an old "Fudgicle" bag/wrapper from the 1930's. I also have a "Fudgsicle" bag from 1960's. Somewhere along the way it was changed to conform the the parent company (Popsicle Corp) spelling.
Sorry to dissappoint folks, but anyone over the age of 50 would probably have known them as fudgicles since that's what they were called as late as the early 1940s. My Grandparents call them fudgicles. It wasn't until sometime around WWII that the name was changed to Fudgcicle.
I'm originally from West Virginia and now living in Richmond, VA. My wife is from just north of Boston in Danvers, MA, and we have long argued (jokingly) about the pronunciation of fudgicle/fudgsicle. I was incredulous the first few times I heard her say "fudgicle" as there is very clearly an "s" in the word; however, we were eating in a local diner last week and saw an old Borden's Ice Cream sign with the word "fudgicle" on it. I immediately apologized to my wife and conceded that she had benn correct all along. Fudgsicle" is clearly a brand name for a product that started out as "fudgicle" generations ago.

A variation I heard, growing up in Fa'haven, pronounced the "g" more softly like soft "zh" or "szh". Fuzhicle.
