Stop the negative comments about Southie!

I get tired of reading all the negative comments about Southie.

True, I no longer live in Southie or even MA...but I loved the time I lived in Southie and still have family that live there. Southie will always be my hometown!

Slocums! When my grandmother gave me money for a chore, off to Slocums I went! I always bought paper dolls!

I went to the Tyann the first year it was open...OK...I'm aging myself here! St Peters and Gate of Heaven!! I went to St Peter's for Kindergarten and 1rst grade. We lived right by the school. And yet there was a cop crossing the kids. Does this still happen? Where I live now, we have school crossing guards.

Another happy memory...on hot weekend nights...everyone sitting outside socializing with everyone else. Good times, no one fought, the adults talked and the kids played.

Back then, the teenagers did hang by the street corners, but they didn't bother anyone. They just hung out.

The fireworks. On the holidays that had fireworks, we would walk down to Carson beach with blankets, a jug of drinks and popcorn!

And who didn't stub their toes walking the wall at the beach?

M Street Park! The swing sets use to have wooden seats. One of my brothers ran out in front of a kid who was on a swing, was hit and had to get stitches. And my Mother never filed a lawsuit! It was an accident!

Does anyone else remember Louie's on I street?

Walking I street and G Street and everyone knowing who I was!

The lagoon! Each and every weekend, the families always gathered in the same spot..to this day my family still goes to the same spot!

Castle Island.... The stone animals were at the park when I was a kid. I played on them, my daughter played on them and now my grandchildren have played on them!

Back then; it was a small town feels in a city.

I now live in a small town in PA where everyone knows everyone else...and it reminds of the Southie I grew up in!

Nobody's implying that Southie's all bad, or that everybody in the community is horrible.
What was being criticized is the fact that there've been people who've been into space-saving long after it ceases to make sense, and the screaming, trashing of cars and physically assaulting people who move a space-marker and park in that space either out of fatigue or frustration or lack of knowledge of the "score" makes no sense at all, imo.

seems to be derogatory...the intent of my post was to share good thoughts and memories of Southie.

People complain about others saving their shoveled spots...yet I haven't read a comment about the double parking on Broadway.

Again, my intent was for people to share their happy comments!

isn't just a Southie situation.

I live in a really small town in Pa...500 people...and they do the space saving in winter, spring, summer and fall.

What's the purpose of space-saving in a small town of 500 people?

Is it because it's official for that town, or does everybody live close enough to his/her house to make that possible?

Most people have 3-4 cars per house hold....they have garages and off street parking behind their homes...yet the
'it's in front of my house' mentality is there!

Marian,
You're correct in the anti-South Boston posts on this and other sites. I've lived here all of my life. The neighborhood has changed. If people feel the way they do and blog it, I would recommend they live or visit elsewhere.

Look, this isn't Sunny Brook Farms. We have rough edges. If you find this offensive maybe try more genteel surrondings.

Marian, don't loose any sleep with this.
