I saw the first crocuses on Pratt Street in Allston this morning, and my own yard is full of leaf tips. (I also saw a wild rabbit last night, for the second time in about a month, but I'm not sure that's a sign of spring so much as an unusual urban wildlife sighting.)

I hate to rain on your Spring Is Here parade, but...
...witch hazel regularly blooms in winter, which is presumably why it's at the Arboretum: to provide some color when nothing else is blooming.
spring is not here
and yet, I'd argue, it is on the way:
"Even in cold, snowy winters, witch hazel can be counted on for blooms by mid-February or early March."

Red-Winged Blackbirds have arrived in Dedham. That's the first pre-Spring sign of the year for me.
