Not a good weekend to try to use the Red Line while carrying heavy bags

Stephen Laniel reminds us it's another weekend of no service across the Longfellow as the T works to keep the trains on the tracks and out of the river.

T buses on narrow Beacon Hill streets

By Ron Newman | Sat, 06/21/2008 - 11:09pm

Tonight, the shuttle buses were lined up on Tremont Street just north of Park Street, rather than alongside the station.

I can see why the T did this, but the Boston traffic cop at Park and Tremont had his hands full: stopping traffic to let huge crowds of pedestrians cross Park Street, then getting Park Street traffic to back up far enough so that the T bus could make the tight right turn from Tremont to Park.

The bus then turned right onto equally narrow Beacon Street, then left onto Bowdoin. It picked up 20 more people at Charles/MGH even though it was already packed full.

The city of Cambridge should consider turning off all of the traffic lights in Kendall Square for the weekend, to make it easier for the buses to navigate that area.

So, did anything happen?

As of this morning, the Red Line is still doing the "Longfellow crawl". Wasn't this the weekend they were supposed to finish the track replacement project?

Not a word of update in the Globe or the Herald, and the previous Red Line Advisory has been removed from mbta.com, so I guess we're supposed to think it was all our imagination.

For inbound trains, but not until late July for outbound trains.
