I never heard of this place, but they sound like they are very nice and have good cupcakes so Ill have to make it a point to visit sometime.

This is why I love small businesses.

I'm surprised you don't know about this place, Milkman. They have actually been in Ball Square for well over a century - since the 1880s I believe.

Yummy yummy stuff, not fussy or fancy or upscale, no dog cookies or cat cupcakes, and very affordable. They have good breads - not ahhhtisan breads, but all the basics in wheat, white, and honey graham, sliced to order on a nifty slicer machine. They also have donuts and pastries and gooey things worth trying, in small and large and party sizes.

They will make just about any cake you can think of, then put it in the window and other people will ask for one too. If you don't see what you want you can ask.

They are on Broadway at Ball Sq., and have their own small parking lot behind off of Willow.

I looked at the map, I actually had really good friends who lived literally less than a quarter of a mile from there. Im amazed I never noticed the place.

Oh I almost forgot, I checked with someone and realized that the Dr.Frank the dentist I know is still in the little brick building next to the faux castle in Medford, and the Dr.Frank dentist you saw across the hall from Dr.Nick is a completely different guy. I must have saw the name Dr.Frank and dentistry on the door of the faux castle and thought he had moved over. So there are two Dr.Franks who are dentists in Medford right next to each other.

Without having ever visited the place, my mouth's watering at the idea. I'll have to make a visit there sometime, since I live not too, too far from there. As for the wedding proposal taking place outside the cupcake store....what a riot!! (Thanks for the late-morning chuckles, adam.)

Preferably in the city itself -- but any place accessible (easily) by public transit is also of interest.

I recently went to Flour Bakery for the first time, on Farnsworth St. near the Moakley courthouse. (There's also a location in the South End, have not been there.) I was very impressed with their chocolate cupcake. Generously sized, moist, with a very light buttercream frosting. The staff working that day were very friendly.

I'm a big fan of the jumbo chocolate cupcakes at Party Favors, in Coolidge Corner (not Boston, I know, but extremely T-accessible.)

On Centre Street in West Roxbury has very nice cupcakes (mmm, Oreo cupcakes!). T accessible in the sense that T buses do travel down Centre to and from Forest Hills.

Sugar Bakery.
