Why is Harvard making
Why is Harvard making cuts??? They have a massive endowment that they grow every year. They can afford to maintain their current situation and should contribute as much as they can to the local economy and the regional economy. Whats all that money good for if you dont use it when the going gets rough?? If its cutting useless spending fine, but dont cut anything that is even remotly worth while while your endowment continues to grow skywards.
If they had spent money in
If they had spent money in the past like you recommend, they wouldn't have the pile they have now. More is better.
Grant Funding
Harvard has a huge endowment, but a whole lot of the work at Harvard is grant funded. The War on Science means that a lot of grant funding has been drying up for the last, oh, seven years or so. Now that the storied endowment has taken major hit points, benefactors are crying in their limos, and the money that it spins off each year has dried up, something has to give.
