I like to see stuff like that, but then again all they did was buy these things and 'place' them. The proliferation of inflatable lawn decorations is getting a little silly - not that there's anything necessarily wrong with it - but how about some real creativity!! If I only had a lawn..

Be careful what you wish for

There are two houses a few doors apart on Parker Street that both have the entire surface of the house/porch/tinyurbanyard covered in light-up Xmas crap. Giant snowglobe, animatronic ferris wheel, etc. Quite the train wreck. I've, um, stopped to gawk at it way too many times.

This led the spousal unit and me to start brainstorming how the utility companies could enact power brackets. Like, every few therms or kilowatts or whatever beyond a moderate usage would get exponentially more expensive. Think of it as a yard-full-of-tacky-crap tax, which would go to fund cleaner energy!

not a bad idea

I like the power bracket concept. I know a lot - ok - most of these decorations are awful, but it's nice to have something to gawk at once in a while.

Unlike somebody we all know in JP

These Hyde Park people do pretty much the same thing every year. Sure, it's slightly more than most people would do, but they don't blow the equivalent of the Ecuadorian GNP on lights and they don't get more and more ridiculous each year. And so they are OK in my book!

That's my favorite Hyde Park

That's my favorite Hyde Park house. They go from holiday to holiday with that kind of display. August is depressing - no holiday.

Always

The people who live in this house always do this kind of decorating for every holiday... They really try hard to make it cheerful, and while their yard overflows with things it does show heart and spirit, so it is hard to not smile or laugh when you see it all... and isn't that what it is all about? Bringing a little joy to others?
