What do men want?

It's about time somebody tried to figure that out! The Fab Empire gives us the details on a Jan. 30 meeting of the Man Panel in the South End:

The Man Panel is a monthly panel that tackles the issue that is on most women's minds - what the heck are men thinking??

Most men want their own space (even if its just a small room), a woman who he can understand (who isnt crazy) independant yet depends on us for a few things (or at least pretends to, and we will return the favor.) They dont want a bunch of women getting toghter to discuss what they want , because that would be just as crazy as a bunch of men gathering monthly to discuss what women want.

A guy had to write that. Seriously. Seems totally whack to think that the sole consuming thought in a woman's head is to identify what "men" want so that they may gleefully go about providing it.

I don't really care what "generic" "men" want or think. I don't spend a lot of time figuring out what my husband is thinking, either, because even thinking about his thought processes would likely seriously disorder mine (and vica versa). I am interested in what he wants for dinner when it is my turn to cook, and sensitive to his not wanting my cold feet under his legs in bed. I'll put some effort into figuring out what he wants for his birthday and christmas gifts, and that he wants to take off skiing for a day because (as that means that I get some kid-free adventure time in return).

Call me selfish, but many women would do better to worry more about figuring out what they themselves want and let the boys please themselves rather than waste precious brain energy divining what some fictional generic man wants.

I fully agree, I feel like it just leads to problems when people try to figure out what men want. If they spend alot of time thinking it over, debating it, asking other people what they think and come home thinking they have the perfect solution to what men want its a huge downer when the boyfriend/husband walks in and it doesnt work. A fight ensues, people get mad, someone sleeps on the couch... Ultimatly Swrrlygrl is right many men just want to be left alone on occasion, which means many men just want women to make themselves happy and everything will fall into place.

I read in the Times nobody can figure out what women want, except it might involve Denzel Washington in a dark alley (yes, the article really makes that point).

Ask him.

Same advice applies to women.

That idea is entirely too reasonable. Anyway, how could we possibly squeeze hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grant money/eight-page bullshit NYT magazine stories/thinly veiled ad campaigns for Internet dating sites out of it?
