Only 13 St. Patrick's arrests, mostly of out-of-towners

Boston Police list all the alleged knucklheads, nine of them from such farflung locales as Natick, Stoughton and New Hamphire. One Roxbury man was charged with assault and battery on a police officer and one South Boston teenager was too young to have his name posted for an arrest on assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (while another did make the cut off and so have his name listed for assault and battery).

Oh, yeah, but police also issued 400 citations for drinking in public. If all of those are paid, that's $80,000 worth of tickets.

So, again blaming it on the college trouble makers doesn't pan out.

Time and again it's locals, or out of towners on the books of those arrested.

Did we really need 600 police for 13 arrests, half for non-violent public drinking?

God our priorities are messed up.

Why were the out of towners here? Some of them were college students who listed Boston addresses.

Meanwhile, on Earth Two:

"Why were only 300 officers on duty for a parade that everyone at BPD knows draws half a million? Of course there were bottle fights and hockey stick attacks and a shootout that almost killed a little kid. If BPD knew what they were doing then they'd have had twice that number out there."

I noticed a very different atomsphere at the parade this year. I liked the idea of citations for drinking in public. The press campaign on this subject seemed to work pretty well, too. I hope this is the stratgy for the future parades. Nice job Boston Police. Thank you.

Yesterday was total suburbs day in town, and this wasn't even at the parade. Either they were pushing a baby stroller or they were wearing green antenna and worrying about cleaning the vomit from their fleece. I think the police probably could have made more arrests given the sheer beer-fueled idiocy seen on the T yesterday. I'm all for a drunken good time, but man, it was just awful. I wish these suburban idiots would just puke in their own towns.

$80,000.00 in tickets vs total cost to taxpayers for the parade.

I'd like to know what the total cost was for police, EMTs, street closings, damage to public property and clean up and what the parade organizers paid towards that total.

Then add the total cost to the state for their contributions. That included free shuttle buses to the T-stations.
