Garden's name gets shorter, thrilling hordes of Twitter users

Delaware North today announced it's changing the name of TD Banknorth Garden to just TD Garden.

TJ Hooker was unavailable for comment, as was Olive Banknorth Garden.

In a statement, the president of Delaware North was quoted as saying something no actual human being would ever actually utter:

"Our long term, multi-dimensional partnership with TD Banknorth has continued to be attractive to both parties," said John Wentzell, President of Delaware North Companies - Boston and TD Banknorth Garden.

These TD Banknorth people seem to know how to handle us Bostonians. They gave us the Garden name back, and now have made it much easier to say by taking out the two extra unneeded syllabyls.

So let me get this straight: the (Boston) Garden is owned by a company named Delaware, but based in New York, and the Garden itself is named after a bank based in Maine, owned by a Canadian company.

That makes perfect sense.

Now I'm torn. I hate these corporate names, but I love your puns on them.

Proud to say that after all these years, I really don't know what TD Banknorth or Delaware North are, or what "TD" stands for. Ignorance is bliss.

That's right, Boston's basketball and hockey arena is named for the city that hosts the Raptors and Maple Leafs.

And "Delaware North" is named for the street intersection in Buffalo where the company's headquarters are located (or at least, once were located). They own both the Garden and the Bruins.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the Patriots to play in "TD Stadium"?

Isn't the alliteration of "Gillette Garden" poetic?

Isn't a swap in order here now?

TD Stadium for football is great: Gillette Garden makes me think of a garden full of rusty razor blades, not so fun

It's not like the Bruins don't strap on sharp metal blades or anything, too. I'm sure we could shoehorn some meaning for Gillette into the Celtics as well (something about Paul Pierce and a knife blade? come on, work with me here).

It's time to flip the sponsors!

The new Gillette Mach 3 Ice Skate. Think about how much faster they can move with three blades!

But he used the English spelling.

G, Grover...G, George...

Geez, how soon I lose my classics.
Gosh, my problem was abusing "alliteration" to mean same consonant as opposed to same consonant sound.

Gee, George, gee.

according to the Globe article. Best not to rename it right before Celtics and Bruins playoffs are about to start.

Maybe they're following the lead of their next-door friend...if they turn off the lights behind the word "Banknorth," they can save a couple hundred bucks a month.
