Menino says he's really, no kidding, going to debate

This just in from the Menino camp: Hizzona says he'll be participating in three debates and "a forum," so get out your calendar now:

The first is Weds., Aug. 26 on Channel 4 between 7 and 8 p.m. (with a rebroadcast the next night on Channel 38. A second hour-long debate will follow on Thurs., Sept. 10, 5-6 p.m. on Channel 25 (with co-sponsorship by the Herald). Menino will face off with challengers Sam Yoon, Kevin McCrea and Michael Flaherty.

The third debate will be Mon., Oct. 19, sponsored by the Globe, NECN, Channel 2 and WBUR. No time listed for the tete-a-tete between Menino and whover comes in second in the Sept. 22 primary (what? I shouldn't assume Menino will be one of the two finalists?).

There's also some sort of forum that Channel 5 is trying to work out.

Sam Yoon tweets: Right direction, not enough.

I just don't understand what Menino is so afraid of. He has represented Boston voters for 16 years, and if he really believes he's doing a good job, than what does he have to hide? I think he's just afraid that if he actually has to get up and defend his 16-year reign, voters will see that all he's been doing is cutting ribbons for the past decade and half and NOT much more!

Yes Menino is a chicken, that's for sure. In fairness, he doesn't have much to say anyway. But voters should be pleased to know that Sam Yoon is working on the voter's schedule. He is holding town hall meetings in the neighborhoods. First one on Tuesday 28th, 6-8pm in Mattapan. A mayoral candidate who wants to hear what voters think - imagine that, mister mayhor.

He never did it as a councillor, and now he's campaigning on taxpayers time, spare us. Can you name one accomplishment of his during his tenure? Such a disappointment. At least Flaherty limited some of those whacky resolutions that were brought before the Council and kept rent control measures from resurfacing.

That's just not true Salvatore. Sam's been all over the city. Just because he's not like the mayor who glad-hands and has to get his mug in every press shot that does not mean Sam's not working hard and doing some good things. He did go throughout the city and held budget meetings not long after he was first elected. Who else does that? He has inclusive leadership and that's a stark difference between he and Menino.

He is not short on accomplishments. Just one example is when he kept security guards in elderly housing. Seniors should feel safe.

Yeah right Salvatore. Sam Yoon held budget meetings with the public in EVERY Boston neighborhood. You and your hack friends are probably content to let Tom Menino conduct city business behind closed doors - but the voters have had enough of that, and of the machine. Get your facts straight - not that you care of course.
