Feathers, roti and music

We went to the Caribbean parade and festival in Kendall Square today. As usual, the feathered costumes were amazing.

Panamanian lady with a lot of fruit on her head (there was an amazing range of actually edible food from chicken roti and goat curry to, um, Korean and Thai):

Waiting for the parade to begin:

What would a Cambridge event be without a radical or two? For what it's worth, he also had a Sam Yoon for Mayor button on his T-shirt.

That's like posting a picture of Tom Brady and putting 'a football player' in the caption. C'mon. If you've been around Boston for a while, you know that that guy in the hat with the pins all over it is none other than Dan the Bagelman. He ran for City Council in District 9 (Allston-Brighton) a couple times, where his slogan was "Bagels, Not Bedbugs" on account of he worked for Food Not Bombs giving out free stale bagels and Allston has, well, an eternal bedbug infestation.

We don't get many radicals down in Roslindale, just Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormon missionaries, so what can I say?

I've seen him in Rozzie Square.

My fave Dan-the-bagel-man moment was outside Harvest in JP though:

Him: "Hey, do you want a lesbian for governor?"
Me: ...walking...
Him: "HEY! YOU!"
Me: ...pretending to be really engrossed in conversation with spouse...
Him: "HEY! HEY! YOU! Let me tell you how you can help us have a lesbian for governor."
Me: "Uh, gotta go."
Him: "Don't you care about women's issues?"
Me: "Nope. I hate women."
Him: "Well let me just give you some stuff to read."
Me: "I'm illiterate."
Him: "Uh... um... wait... uh... what?"

He was standing outside the BAC on Newbury Street before tonight's mayoral forum, amidst the general standout scrum of human billboards. I didn't stop to see what he was doing or pushing or whatever because, well, I figured it was more important to get a good seat.
