UMass researcher places his bet with casinos

The Herald reports an "objective" UMass professor who kept coming up with pro-gambling arguments that kept getting used by the governor, is now in the pay of a group pushing for a casino in New Hampshire.

"It's really not much," Barrow said of the amount he’s getting paid.

nice scoop. heh.

I gotta wonder if Fitzgerald read the Dig's muckraking story two years back about Clyde Barrow, his controversial research methodology and his various conflicts of interest.

I'm kinda biased. We started this story on my watch as managing editor, and my wife co-wrote it. But I think it's a must-read for anybody interested in the casino issue in Massachusetts. The Globe should've been doing stuff like this from day one.
