The problem with Boston men

Amy: They are cheap and aggressive. Not like those nice guys down in Providence.

Boston men who buy women drinks are just trying to get the women plastered enough to sleep with them...er, I mean so other Boston guys say, anyway.

I also take offense to the genderized notion that men must be the ones to buy females alcoholic beverages. This does not set a healthy example for the next generation of women who read your blog. (Girls: you don't need to rely on alcohol as a way to interact with men!) Perhaps the men in Boston are progressive thinking and are defering to you, allowing you to assert power by buying the drinks?

And Boston men are certainly not cheap - we choose to take our dates out to all you can eat taco nights and dollar draft bars because of the downward economic pressures thrust upon us via high gas and housing costs. How are we ever going to afford a house for our future wives if we by keep buying full priced drinks for random women!

For shame! It is women like you who want to keep men in their submissive societal roles and deny true parity between the sexes.

[Is she gone? Do you think she bought it?]

Hey... I'm all for girls doing their own thing. I've bought guys drinks. I've bought guys dinner. Believe me, I understand the economic pressures but goddammit, I am a traditionalist at heart and I want a guy to prove he's not just looking for a lay when I first meet him. It's not a foolproof plan, but it's all I've got so far.

well, i try to never assume that a guy is talking to me for any reason other than he likes to meet new people when he goes out, just like i do. if i get the feeling he's looking for more than a a 'hope to see you here again sometime' and maybe, possibly an exchange of cell phone numbers, i clear up expectations immediately. i'd rather a bit of embarassment then a nice evening out ending badly.

if we go up to the bar and he asks me what i want, i say don't worry about it, i can get it. if he still gets me a drink, i thank him, and make sure i buy the next round. heck i do that with anyone guys/girls/best-friends doesn't matter.
